There is no better restaurant in Ensenada, probably in Baja, to spend your Valentines Day weekend with that special someone. At the 5 star Belio Restaurant, I did just that. It was a typical mid-February evening, about 55 degrees, clear moon light shining on the oceans pond-like wave, and a honey dressed to the hilt just waiting to be wined and dined. So there I was, looking to impress and Belio really needed to help me out here. And boy, did they.

It has been my experience that people who have been coming to Mexico for many years are still coming down because they know Mexico is a safe place to visit. People who may be considering coming down to Mexico for the first time may be fearful of coming to Mexico because they only know what they are reading about - the drug violence. Based on this article, I would say that in addition to the long-time Mexico visitors, there must also be a fair number of new visitors coming to Mexico as well.

The Liceaga Vineyard was established in 1983. Orginally a table grape vineyard, Liceaga began making the transition into producing wines shortly thereafter.

I’ve had the dream of living in the wine country and making wine since I was quite young. I was born and raised in the San Francisco area and would frequently take trips to the Napa Valley which was still in its infancy when I started going there.

The Cavas Valmar history begins with the arrival of Don Federico Valentin to Ensenada in 1919 from the French Alpes in lovely mountains of France. He dedicated himself to attending his ranch. As a good Frenchmen, he attended his own wines and he began to share them with his friends. His children Hector and Gontran Valentin with Fernando Martain joined together to establish the Cavas Valmar in 1983.

Legend has it that Hernan Cortez and his men exhausted their wine supply when celebrating the conquest of the Aztecs in the 1500s, so the Spaniards decreed that every recipient of a land grant must plant grape vines so that sacramental wine would be plentiful.
